At Persad Center, we believe every LGBTQ+ person deserves to thrive.

In our 48 years of providing culturally competent mental health services to the LGBTQ+ community, we have grown considerably and worked to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. At the heart of our mission is providing exceptional counseling services to our community and we know the need is only increasing. During this past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has required us to retool and reimagine the way that we provide care to our community members during a time when the need has never been greater.
  • In the past year, we have seen a 58% increase in requests for teletherapy appointments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • We served 832 clients in our counseling program, 48% of whom are transgender or nonbinary. 85% of our counseling clients make under $40,000 per year, and with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our community's jobs and health insurance, our sliding fee scale has become even more needed. We offer counseling to any client regardless of their ability to pay, and we absorb the cost of their therapy.
  • In March, we opened up the area's first LGBTQ-competent Intensive Outpatient Program, which offers intensive care for people struggling with mental health and substance use issues.

In the coming year, we look forward to creatively addressing new challenges, developing innovative ways to deliver our programs, and expanding our reach to clients in outlying communities who do not have access to culturally competent care.

Most importantly, we will be here. While our doors may not be physically open today, we are still here to connect our community to competent, compassionate mental health services.

Will you make a donation today to help support these services for LGBTQ+ people? Our generous Board of Directors has offered to match up to $5,000 of donations today, so your gifts until midnight will go twice as far.
